The Los Angeles Central Library marked its 100th anniversary
The Los Angeles Central Library marked its 100th anniversary with a celebration as grand as the institution itself. Hosted in honor of a century of community, knowledge and art deco architectural magnificence, the anniversary luncheon brought together library employees, psupporters, patrons, and city leaders for an afternoon of festivities.
Marking the historic occasion, a time capsule from the building’s dedication in 1925 was carefully unearthed ahead of the event. As guests arrived and mingled, they were treated to a glimpse of life in Los Angeles over a century ago as they perused items from the time capsule including scrapbooks of photographs, old coins, newspapers and items from another time capsule from 1881. Every element of the luncheon highlighted our team in action, as servers moved through the space with refreshing beverages and a menu that embodied the library’s timeless sophistication.
The culinary experience began with an array of passed appetizers that delighted both the eye and the palate. Tandoori chicken skewers offered warm, aromatic spices, while mango ceviche shooters delivered a refreshing burst of citrus. Poke served on crispy nori added a savory crunch, and avocado bruschetta provided a creamy, satisfying bite. Caprese skewers brought together fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil in perfect harmony, curried butternut squash soup shooters offered a comforting option, and baguette slices topped with thinly sliced fillet, arugula, provolone, and a drizzle of white truffle oil elevated a classic combination into something extraordinary.
The heartier selections rounded out the menu beautifully. Pulled barbecue chicken sliders topped with crisp slaw were a crowd favorite, balancing smoky richness with refreshing crunch, and roast vegetable sliders ensured there was something for every guest, each bite thoughtfully prepared and artfully presented. A stunning cheese station became a natural gathering place, featuring grilled seasonal vegetables, olives, hummus, and other savory dips served alongside artisan crackers, sliced baguette, and focaccia breadsticks. It was a display that encouraged conversation and connection, a tribute to a library that has fostered community for a century. Ending the celebration on a sweet note, guests enjoyed chocolate dipped strawberries and cake, a simple yet elegant finale to an unforgettable afternoon.
As the Los Angeles Central Library celebrates 100 years, this anniversary luncheon served as a beautiful reminder that great institutions are built on a commitment to bringing people together. At Summit, there’s nothing we love more than helping you celebrate your milestones and this was one for the books!
