Inside Our Non-Profit...

SUMMIT CARES: A Look Inside Our Non-Profit Collaborations (Lot318 edition)

At Summit, we make a lot of delicious cuisines. Our team works hard because we are grateful for what we have been given: the opportunity to formulate great relationships with our clients. Not only is it our mission to always surpass the expectations of every guest, but we are equally compelled to make memories for the local heroes and the less fortunate. At the core, giving is the heartbeat of Summit.

During this time, we have had the opportunity to be even more invested in the community. As many of our events have been canceled or postponed due to the pandemic at the last minute, we have a surplus of fresh ingredients. We saw this as a silver lining. It allows us to do what we do best – using our relationships to partner and invest in our employees and the community, while helping those who need it the most.

So, one might wonder… what do we do with all our extra food?

The humble truth is… we have been donating 10 to 15 THOUSAND pounds of food on an annual basis for over two decades! Our philosophy on abundance is not about the amount of food that we have, but how we give back. In today’s #SummitStory, we explore four recent and wonderful collaborations Summit has had with EventLA, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and LOT318.

LOT318: Connecting with the Community

LOT318 is a local non-profit located in Placentia who focuses on empowering the community. Their purpose is to help at-risk youth find theirpurpose by valuing education and the world around them. In addition to a weekly Homework Club, LOT318 hosts several events to invest, impact, and build unity. Over the past 12 years, Summit has partnered with LOT318 during many of these events.

We find different ways to meet specific needs in the LOT318 community. From popcorn and lemonade during “Summer Movie Nights”, to barbecuing hotdogs at the Halloween “Family Fun Fest”, Summit participates in LOT318’s events throughout the year.  In line with California’s Safer-at-Home directive, we recently donated surplus chicken breasts, burgers, and all beef hotdogs to several families during LOT318’s Drive Through Food Distribution.

During this time of uncertainty, two volunteers still smile as they prepare to distribute bags of essential groceries and household supplies.

For the past 13 years, Summit has additionally come alongside LOT318 for its annual Thanksgiving Feast, where we prepare, donate, and help serve over 1,500 proper Thanksgiving meals to all families inthe La Jolla community of Placentia.  We set up buffet stations, provide all materials such as utensils and paper products, and invite our staff to help serve alongside LOT318’s volunteers.

In the spirit of giving, various volunteers happily serve fresh turkey and mashed potatoes during LOT318’s Thanksgiving Feast.

Furthermore, LOT318 is founded by standout Summit employee, Letty Gali. Since collaborating, at least a dozen members of LOT318’s community members have been employed by Summit. We love our longstanding relationship with LOT318!

And Finally, Food for Thought:

The pandemic has only allowed us to do more of what we love to do. We – the management, sales, and service team  – are passionate about using our time and talents to give back. By working together in the community, the heart of Summit unifies into one… and our mission becomes stronger.

These moments not only move our company’s story forward, but that of our employees and their friends and families.  We are humbled and grateful to be given the opportunity to bless many others. We’d like to thank EventLA,St.Jude’s Children’s Research HospitalSt. Joseph’s Hospital, and LOT318for letting Summit Event Catering be a part of something greater.

Together, we are better!
